SHANKH - SHELL

Shankh is a conch shell and it has a strong association with Hindu religion. It emits divine energy when it is blown. An  idea came to mind to make a sankh which can be blown .



 


















Material used:- waste newspaper, 
tissue paper, glue and white pearl acrylic color.


It was made in two parts and the idea was taken of a real shankh. The thin polythene sheet was wrapped on the upper side  of the shankh and fixed  with adhesive tape.Thereafter, it was covered with the waste news paper pieces completely.  Good number of layers were wrapped to raise its thickness and  left to dry in sunlight for 2-3 days. The same procedure was followed to make the lower  side.


Both dried parts were put together in such a way that the   object looked  like natural shape of shell. Both pieces were attached with the help of newspaper and glue and  kept in sunlight to become dry. The shape of  uneven  thorny edge of shankh was given by placing heaps of  lugdi of tissue paper and diluted glue.  Raw sankh was ready . 4-5 layers of tissue paper were wrapped with the diluted glue. and  it was again dried . A ball made from tissue paper and glue was fixed on the top rounded shape. White pearl color was painted on dried sankh.

SNAKE CHARMER [SAPERA]

My interest in music did not permit me to throw a wooden  tabla (musical instrument). It was kept in store for a long time. All of a sudden ,an idea came to my  mind to use it as a memorable decorative piece. So I started thinking about its use and ultimately a figure of a snake charmer was clicked.

Undernoted items were used to make it:-
wooden Tabla, old news papers, wire, card sheet, cistern ball,  fevicol, febicryl colours.

A long card sheet has been rolled several times and it was fixed in hollow place of tabla to use it as neck. Remaining space of tabla  was  filled with waste items viz waste foam pieces, news paper etc. The charmer's arms, hands and shoulders were made from newspaper and wire and these were attached with the neck with  use of  glue. The same procedure was adopted to make the legs. Legs were also attached to lower part of the tabla. Ears, nose , eyes and mouth were made from tissue paper and card sheet.The charmer's slippers were made from card sheet. to tie newspapers and tissue paper.
The charmer's flute (bean) was made from a cistern's  plastic ball. A hole was made in the ball  by piercing a hot rod across the centre. A pipe made from the news papers was passed through the hole  to give the shape.

With the support  of flexible wire,,the body of the  snake was made from  the newspaper and tissue papers. It was dried properly and was coloured with fabicryl colors. To give complete shape, clothes were fixed on the body.
